Happy 2007! For anyone who was dying to know the update on my alienware laptop (curse you, Dell!) you'll be happy to know that I'm currently typing on it...though I think the tech-ies at Alienware still are under the impression that it's awaiting parts. No matter. It's working!
Here's the question for the day: Let's just say...you're at the....oh...local Science Center...and your 4-year-old sees someone who is somewhat overweight walk by. He chooses to shout, "HEY! Look at her! She's really FAT!!!" How do you quickly correct the child? What do you say to them? And should you apologize to the woman?
My response was, "Come here right now and listen to me closely. Do NOT ever say that again."
"Why?"
"Because that's naughty. People don't like it when you talk about them and people don't like being called fat. I would be very sad if someone said that about me!"
"Oh."
I don't know if she heard him, but I was so embarrassed! I don't judge people who are overweight. I'm not my ideal weight either, and I can understand the various reasons why people are obese. They don't want to be. Nor does anyone wanted to be pointed at and shouted about for whatever the reason. Yikes!
Guess we need to go over that "Golden Rule" a few more times! Heaven knows he still hasn't used it toward his little brother. I think that "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you" includes refraining from random head-butting, noogie giving, and dragging your brother around the room in a head-lock.
I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments on this one.
